What is HTML?

HTML is a universal system for proclaiming hypertext on the Internet. This format is based on SGML and it can be easily composed and edited by numerous instruments, starting with the standard text editors and finishing with the most complex authoring tools (WYSIWYG). The structure of HTML is very logical – it uses simple tags to texturize data into headings, hypertext links, lists, and so on. HTML belongs to the basic foundations of the W3C’s conception of the Web of the future. It is the element of all websites and W3C is currently trying to improve HTML and to make it even more multifunctional and modern.

XHTML

XHTML or Extensible HyperText Markup Language is a set of modules and data types which copies, extends and broadens the abilities of HTML, but it uses the updated XML rather than SGML as a foundation. All types of XHTML documents are created to function in connection with XML-based user agents. This family of languages is a follower of HTML and they both consist of many similar and common processes and instruments.
